👤 My story

Not a travel guide.
An island lived every year.

My name is Alessandro. I've been coming back to Karpathos, whenever I can, since 2014. This blog is the diary of what I keep on discovering.

An island that isn't understood right away

The first time I arrived in Karpathos it was almost by chance. I was looking for something different, far from the most beaten tourist trails.

There I found an island that isn't understood right away, that takes time, that gives you more the more you get to know it. Since then I've come back every year, often several times. I've walked the trails on foot, swum at almost every beach, driven along roads that never end, eaten in taverns where there wasn't even a menu in English.

Everything I write about on this blog — and on karpathosconale.com, and in the Kmap app — comes from that first-hand experience. Not from travel guides, not from press trips, not from algorithms.

📔 Why I started this blog
Every year I get messages from people going to Karpathos for the first time who don't know where to start. This blog is the practical answer to those questions — updated with a new article every week.

The first arrival in Karpathos

A trip almost by chance, far from the busier routes. That's when I realised this island was different from all the others.
